Guilty until Proven Innocent: Navigating Our Criminal Justice System
Public Safety/Police/Crime
March 27 - 31, 2023 | On the Table
Description
Our courts are made to protect us and our communities. But so many citizens don't understand the basics of how they work, which makes it appear that we are working on two opposing sides. This table will talk to community members about the basics of navigating what a bond is and how it works and your rights as a citizen, and the importance of being involved and understanding the work our officers and courts are doing. So many times families want to assist their loved ones in the very stressful environment of the courts and jail system. Change can not happen unless we all work together towards the same goals.
This will provide basic knowledge and should not take the place of an individual securing legal counsel.

What is On the Table
On the Table is a one of a kind opportunity to bring people of diverse backgrounds together to have meaningful conversations about topics that are important to the community. This community-wide initiative seeks to explore the ways in which we have the power to collaborate to make our community stronger, safer, and more dynamic.
Following On the Table, the Community Foundation of Central Georgia will survey participants to find out what issues matter most to them and what kinds of ideas for solutions emerged from the day’s conversations. We’ll also help to share some stories of participants to help inspire others to make a difference.
This initiative would not be possible without the generous funding of the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.
